Fareway Stores and Alliant Energy have partnered on a new solar field located at Fareway’s distribution center in the Boone Industrial Park. the one-megawatt Fareway Solar Field, consisting of nearly 2,000 solar panels, began service last week. Alliant will own, operate and maintain the solar field as part of the Alliant Energy Customer-Hosted Renewables program, which allows qualified customers with available land to host solar facilities and receive annual lease payments. The site will generate renewable energy for all Alliant customers and renewable energy credits for Fareway to offset a portion of its carbon emissions. The field is Alliant’s first customer-hosted solar project, a news release said.
