Fareway Stores Inc. President and COO Frederick Greiner will retire Sept. 1, the company reported. Greiner has worked for Fareway for 50 years, and has been on the board since 1991. He started in Independence, and after serving in the Army during the Vietnam War he worked for Fareway in Winterset, Cherokee and Boone. Greiner managed the Boone Fareway store from 1983 to 1989, and then joined the corporate office as district supervisor. He was elected president and COO in 2006 after years in various leadership roles. He also had held top positions on the Iowa Grocery Industry Association Board.
