The Boone-based grocery store chain known for thick steaks and hearty chops will open its first Fareway Meat Market on May 26 in Omaha. Fareway Chief Executive Reynolds Cramer said expanding outside the traditional grocery store model is exciting for the 78-year-old company that operates 114 stores in five states. The 6,000-square-foot meat market will feature a 56-foot meat case, which is about 16 feet longer than a typical Fareway grocery store, Cramer said. The market will have all the beef, chicken and pork selections that are available in the grocery cases, plus a large fish section, sandwiches and specialty cuts of lamb, beef and pork, he said. It also will have a large selection of artisan cheeses, wines and craft beers, all considered accompaniments to grilling and entertaining.
