The Iowa Farm Bureau Federation has donated $100,000 to the Iowa Food Bank Association to help provide half a million meals to Iowans who are experiencing food insecurity. According to a news release, inflation and rising food prices have increased demand at food pantries as more families struggle to put food on the table. Many visitors to food pantries are first-time visitors, the release stated. “This rise for assistance has significantly strained our resources, both in terms of donations and volunteers, and the demand for food continues to rise in every corner of the state,” Linda Gorkow, executive director, Iowa Food Bank Association, said in the release. Brent Johnson, president of the Iowa Farm Bureau Federation board, said the organization is “happy to do what we can to help our communities during this crisis.” “We recognize this is an especially difficult time for so many Iowans, and Iowa farmers have always rallied together to help their neighbors and communities during times of need,” he said in the release.
