Farmers Mutual Hail to acquire Canadian insurer
Farmers Mutual Hail Insurance Co. of Iowa (FMH) announced it is acquiring Canadian-based Palliser Insurance. Palliser is a crop hail insurance provider headquartered in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada, that offers crop hail insurance across western Canada. Farmers Mutual Hail previously had a 20% share in the company and had FMH leaders on Palliser’s board of directors. This is FMH’s first acquisition of a non-U.S. based company. “I am excited about this partnership and the impact it will have as we continue to expand and diversify our footprint,” Shannon Rutledge, FMH president and CEO, said in a prepared statement. “The regional expertise, knowledge, and accomplishments that the Palliser team brings with them will contribute to our long-term strategy of strengthening and enhancing our core crop insurance business.”
