McKenna Haase, a 21-year-old professional race car driver and the owner of Compass Racing Development, was selected as the winner of Flourish, FemCity Des Moines’ inaugural community-funding event held Nov. 12. Haase will receive nearly $2,000 to grow her business, raised through a combination of ticket sales and an anonymous donation. Compass is one of the only youth-based driver development programs in the nation that focuses on the kids as individuals and their development both off and on the racetrack. Haase will use the funds to purchase and build a car for a young driver. “(I’m) unbelievably honored and grateful for the support of FemCity, the sponsors and the Des Moines community towards growing youth motorsports and STEM in Iowa,” Haase said in an Instagram post after the event. Flourish was presented by FemCity Des Moines and the Greater Des Moines Partnership.
