Former D.M. police lieutenant to lead Iowa’s Latino Heritage Festival

Former Des Moines Police Lt. Joe Gonzalez will lead the 2015 Iowa Latino Heritage Festival, which this year will add new events and a social media campaign. This year’s Latino Heritage Festival will be held Sept. 26-27 on the Walnut and Locust street bridges in downtown Des Moines. The festival includes various musical entertainment, dancers, martial arts performers, a children’s area, Latin American foods, booths about the countries represented at the festival and more. New to this year’s event will be an increased social media presence, as well as a health village, an expanded artwork display that will continue to showcase the work of veterans but also young Latinos and Latinas’ art. There will also be live art, a civic engagement booth, and a hospitality tent for dignitaries and elected officials.
