Former state Supreme Court Justice Hecht dies

142 wordsAll Latest News, Arts and Culture, Government Policy and LawFormer Iowa Supreme Court Justice Daryl Hecht, who retired in December to undergo treatment for melanoma, has died, according to a release from the Iowa Judicial Branch. Hecht, 66, was appointed to the court in 2006. He had practiced law in Sioux City for 22 years before being appointed to the court of appeals in 1999. He is a past president of the Iowa Association for Justice. Hecht has served as a member of the board of directors of the Boys and Girls Home and Family Services, the Morningside College Alumni Association, the Woodbury County Judicial Magistrate Nominating Commission, and the Woodbury County Compensation Commission. He was chairperson for the Iowa Civil Justice Reform Task Force and he was involved in the study of civil justice reform at the national level. Hecht is survived by his wife, two daughters and three grandchildren.
