What are your goals in your role at your company?
I would like to use the Masters in Communication Leadership degree, which I am currently pursuing from Drake University, to enhance and oversee our company’s external communications and public relations. I would also like to set up a foundation in honor of my identical twin sister, Jamie Hurd, which would be used to further our company’s civic philanthropic footprint. Finally, I would like to obtain my Certified Commercial Investment Member designation after I complete graduate school.

What are your goals for community involvement?
My goal as a West Des Moines Chamber of Commerce board member is to provide leadership in improving the economic, civil and cultural well-being of West Des Moines, by ensuring and securing a sustainable economic future for the city. I believe this can be accomplished through strategic initiatives, such as stronger advocacy and legislative representation at the Iowa Capitol, access to community business leaders, connectivity and business education.

What’s your biggest passion, and why?
One of my biggest passions is fitness. I am very active and work out for many reasons. My grandparents had heart disease, so I try to maintain a healthy heart through running and clean eating. I  have also found that cardio is a great way to combat stress. I truly believe that you cannot take care of others if you don’t take care of yourself. Staying active is vitally important to an overall healthy well-being. I am also very specific about the foods I choose to eat and would love to see our city start to integrate more health-conscious restaurants that put an emphasis on organic, non-GMO whole foods.

What is it that drives you?
My identical twin sister, Jamie Hurd, is what drives me to make a positive impact in our community. Jamie was the most loving, accepting, brave, fun and fearless person I will ever know. I want to make her proud and honor her memory every single day of my life.
