As part of Business Publications Corp.’s Pillars of Philanthropy publication, we include profiles of those honored by the Central Iowa Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals. The philanthropy awards celebrate the power of philanthropy and those who make it happen – the donors, volunteers, community leaders, connectors and storytellers who commit their time, energy and immense talents to improve the lives of others.

The Central Iowa Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals is one of over 230 chapters representing more than 30,000 members throughout the world. The local chapter works to advance philanthropy through advocacy, education and certification programs, fostering the growth and development of fundraising professionals and promoting the highest ethical fundraising practices.

Honorees are chosen for their generosity, commitment and determination to enhance the lives of countless Iowans. They were recognized at the chapter’s luncheon on Nov. 18. Under the direction of Bondurant-Farrar High School art instructor Christian Vandehaar, and with the support of the Community Foundation of Greater Des Moines, four students honored the awardees by creating a piece of art that embodies their philanthropic spirit.

This year’s award recipients are:

• Outstanding Large Corporate/Foundation Philanthropy: Athene.
• Outstanding Small Corporate/Foundation Philanthropy: NCMIC.
• Outstanding Individual Philanthropist: Joyce and Terry Lillis.
• Outstanding Volunteer Fundraiser: Gerard Neugent.
• Outstanding Youth in Philanthropy: Hailey and Riley Gojkovich.
• Spirit of Philanthropy: Sam Chiodo.
