Citing the roughly $2.3 million debt created with this summer’s Newbo Evolve event, Go Cedar Rapids interim CEO Jim Haddad and the group’s board of directors announced that the debt “was too much to overcome.” In a release, Haddad said Go Cedar Rapids officials had spent the last two months looking for a way to continue as the community’s convention and visitors bureau and pay its Newbo Evolve obligations. The city will take on the marketing of Cedar Rapids on a transitional basis.
