Goodbye, AIB

Today marks the final day of operations for the AIB College of Business, which Friday officially becomes a higher-education center offering select degree programs from the University of Iowa. AIB donated the campus to Iowa, though Iowa State University and the University of Northern Iowa may offer classes at the campus later. The longtime Des Moines landmark folded amid intense competition for students and the prospect of mounting expenses for sports facilities and remodeling of the campus. The Cedar Rapids Gazette reportedthat the Iowa Board of Regents has renamed the campus the Iowa Center for Higher Education, the latest in a string of names since the announcement of the donation. Though there was talk of retaining some AIB faculty, only a receptionist and three facilities workers joined the University of Iowa staff. Read a recent article about business leaders eyeing a downtown campus on BusinessRecord.com.
