Gov. Kim Reynolds today signed a proclamation declaring September as Hunger Action Month, citing the high numbers of people who are food insecure in Iowa, and the effects food insecurity can have on a person’s health, education and the economy. In the proclamation, she stated that adults and children who are food insecure are at increased risk for various negative health outcomes and disparities. In the proclamation, Reynolds called on Iowans to fight hunger and food insecurity by volunteering and donating. Business Publications Corp. and its publications, including the Business Record, dsm Magazine and ia Magazine, began its Iowa Stops Hunger campaign in 2020 to raise attention to those who are food insecure and focus on those who have made it their mission to help. Hunger Action Month was a topic that was addressed during BPC’s recent Iowa Stops Hunger event, Business Leaders Making a Difference, on Aug. 30.

Iowa Stops Hunger is a Business Publications Corp. initiative to bring awareness and action to food insecurity in Iowa. Read additional stories on Iowastopshunger.com.
