Trustee Richard Jacobson has issued a $4 million challenge grant as part of Grand View College’s Spotlight on Success campaign. It is the largest single donation he has ever given and the largest gift the college has ever received. As part of the challenge,   Jacobson will match all new and increased contributions to Grand View’s capital campaign up to $4 million.

The Spotlight on Success campaign has raised nearly $10 million, which will go toward new facilities, scholarships and the college’s endowment. Projects will include a new academic building on the corner of East 14th Street and Grandview Avenue and an expansion of its science facilities needed because of rapid growth in its biology and nursing departments. The campaign started in October 2006 and will go until the final goal is met.

In response to Jacobson’s gift, the Grand View Board of Trustees will vote today on whether to raise the campaign’s goal to $18 million from $15 million.

Jacobson has been a Grand View trustee since 1997. He is chairman of Jacobson Cos., which consists of six integrated operating companies, and the head of the Richard O. Jacobson Foundation, which has given away more than $20 million.

“I believe so strongly in what Grand View College stands for and the good work it does,” Jacobson said in a press release. “This challenge, I hope, will encourage others to make meaningful contributions to the campaign.”
