Grant will help in renovation of vacant building in Waukee’s downtown

The city of Waukee has received a $100,000 grant from the Iowa Economic Development Authority that will be used to help transform a vacant building in the suburb’s downtown area into new commercial space. The Pin Oak Building at 405 Sixth St. has been vacant for a decade. Elbert Real Estate Group plans on turning the space into a restaurant, something residents want in the downtown. Plans include restoring the building’s original step-down roofline, adding windows and a skylight. The renovation project is estimated to cost $430,000.
