GreenState Credit Union announced Tuesday that Vikram Israni was appointed its new CEO. Israni succeeds Todd Fanning, who served as interim CEO since September following Jeff Disterhoft’s retirement from the company.

According to a news release, GreenState’s board of directors partnered with global search firm Spencer Stuart on a nationwide search.

Israni most recently served as chief financial officer of Wings Credit Union based in Apple Valley, Minn. He has more than 25 years of experience in the financial services industry, including roles with Bank of America and Canada-based ATB Financial.

“The board was resolute that we were looking for our next leader to have a strong financial background to help navigate these challenging economic times, but also someone with the charisma and character to lead our growing team. … Our board was impressed by Vic’s visionary leadership, strategic acumen and commitment to the credit union philosophy,” Fred Mims, chair of GreenState’s board, said in a prepared statement.

Israni has an MBA from the American Graduate School of International Management – Thunderbird and a bachelor’s degree from St. John’s University.
