GreenState Credit Union announced that its board of directors has doubled its goal of extending $500 million in home loans to people of color in the next decade, with a new goal of lending $1 billion to Black, Asian, nonwhite Hispanic, and Native American populations across its field of membership by 2030. The North Liberty-based credit union is the state’s largest credit union, with $9 billion in assets as of December. “Since the launch of our Community Investment work last year, we have already seen incredible progress, with home loans to Black GreenState members growing to $68 million in 2021, up 60% from $42 million,” GreenState CEO Jeff Disterhof said in a press release. The credit union’s total loan portfolio was nearly $8 billion at year-end 2021. Membership in GreenState Credit Union is open to those who live or work anywhere in Iowa, or in counties in Illinois, Nebraska, South Dakota and Wisconsin that border on Iowa. University of Iowa students, alumni and staff are also eligible to join, as are direct family members of current GreenState Credit Union members.
