Grinnell College to feature Martin Luther King Day speakers

Professor Patricia Williams of Columbia Law School and national correspondent Ta-Nehisi Coates of The Atlantic magazine will appear at events at Grinnell College Jan. 19-20 as part of Martin Luther King Day observances. The events, free and open to the public, will be in Room 101 of the Joe Rosenfield ’25 Center, 1115 Eighth Ave., Grinnell. Williams, recipient of a 2000 MacArthur “genius grant,” will offer a mix of lecture and discussion Jan. 19 beginning at 10:30 a.m. and focusing on “Hoping Against Hopelessness: An Anatomy of Short Lives.”  Coates will give a 6 p.m Jan. 20 lecture on “The Case for Reparations.” Read more
