Volunteers will be accepting food and cash contributions at area grocery stores on Oct. 2, Oct. 9 and Oct. 16 for the Des Moines Area Religious Council’s Emergency Food Pantry. Participating retailers include Dahl’s Foods, Hy-Vee Inc. and Fareway Stores Inc. supermarkets in Des Moines, West Des Moines and Ankeny. Shoppers will be encouraged to purchase $5 Hunger Sacks or make cash contributions. Shoppers may also purchase individual non-perishable items and place them in the Food Pantry’s familiar red barrels.
