Groundbreaking to be held today for ISU’s Gerdin Business Building expansion
Iowa State University officials today will host a groundbreaking ceremony for the expansion of the Gerdin Business Building. ISU President Wendy Wintersteen and David Spalding, the Raisbeck endowed dean of the Debbie and Jerry Ivy College of Business, will preside at the ceremony, which begins at 4 p.m.
Construction work on the $28 million project, which will add 45,000 square feet to the facility, started in February. The expansion is expected to be complete in the fall of 2020, with classes beginning in the new space in January 2021.
BNIM of Des Moines and Story Construction of Ames are the design-build team for the addition, which is being constructed on the east side of the Gerdin Business Building, facing Wallace Road. They were selected from 11 design-build teams that bid on the project.
The design includes more classrooms, computer classrooms, a multipurpose space and study areas. Additional space for faculty and staff offices is also included.
The expansion was made possible through a $7 million commitment from the Gerdin Charitable Foundation. Ann Gerdin and her late husband, Russell Gerdin, provided a key gift for the building in 2001.
