Malcolm Hankins (pictured), currently director of neighborhood services in Aurora, Colo., has been hired as an assistant city manager in Des Moines. Hankins, who will be paid $170,000 annually, has worked in local government for nearly three decades, including working in neighborhood revitalization, community relations and code enforcement in Phoenix, Scottsdale and Chandler, Ariz. “His professionalism and commitment to strengthening neighborhoods will make him a valuable addition to our community and the residents we serve,” City Manager Scott Sanders said in a news release. Hankins will join the city in late November. He replaces Phil Delafield, who retired in July.
