Hensley on board of new clean water partnership
The Iowa Partnership for Clean Water, a new statewide organization that says the agriculture industry has been unfairly blamed for water quality problems in the state, officially launched today. The group, which said it hopes to “balance the dialogue between the need for agriculture production in Iowa and water quality solutions,” is led by a four-person board comprising Cedar Rapids Mayor Ron Corbett, former Lt. Gov. Patty Judge, Des Moines Councilwoman Christine Hensley and Plymouth County Supervisor Don Kass. “IPCW recognizes that in order for meaningful progress to be made in Iowa, rural and urban residents must unite in a collaborative effort to continue protecting natural resources,” Hensley said in a release. The 501c4 organization advocates support of the existing voluntary Nutrient Reduction Strategy. The Des Moines Water Works board of directors voted in March to proceed with a historic lawsuit against three upstream counties to address worsening nitrate pollution that threatens Greater Des Moines’ drinking water.
