The Greater Des Moines Convention and Visitors Bureau (GDMCVB) celebrated its 102nd anniversary on Wednesday by recognizing eight local businesses and organizations. At its annual dinner, which was held at the Des Moines Marriott Downtown, the GDMCVB honored the Des Moines Police Department at its Civic Friend of Hospitality, Meredith Corp. as its Corporate Friend of Hospitality, Terry McLane of the Des Moines Marriott Downtown as its Friend of Hospitality, Van and Bonnie of 1040 WHO-radio as its Media Friend of Hospitality, and Matt Homan and the staff of the Iowa Events Center as its Sport Friend of Hospitality. The Civic Center of Greater Des Moines was named as the convention bureau’s Partner of the Year, the Veterans Association was named Volunteer of the Year and the Des Moines Arts Festival received the Hometown Hero award. The Spirit of Community Award went to the Polk County Board of Supervisors.
