The city of Indianola is partnering with Confluence, a landscape architecture firm, to develop a comprehensive housing study and needs assessment that will help guide the city’s future planning. “By comprehending our housing dynamics in-depth, we will lay a robust foundation that resonates with our community’s aspirations and needs,” Charlie Dissell, Indianola’s community and economic development director, said in a prepared statement. “As Indianola undergoes demographic and economic shifts, this data-driven approach ensures that we remain adaptive, responsive and proactive in our planning and development initiatives.” Initial survey results revealed that nearly 48% of Indianola renters are “cost burdened,” which means that they spend 30% or more of their housing income on rent and utilities. Indianola is spending $27,500 to conduct the study, which is expected to be completed by May. Indianola residents, commuters, employers and employees can access the survey here.
