Hubbell Realty Co. is planning its eighth senior living community in the Des Moines area, this one in Waukee on nearly 5 acres at Southeast Tallgrass Lane and Southeast Parkview Crossing Drive.

The Planning and Zoning Commission and the City Council have approved a request to rezone the property to allow development of Edencrest at Kettlestone.

The senior living community would be similar to other Edencrest developments Hubbell has built in Altoona, Ankeny, Johnston, Norwalk and Des Moines. An Edencrest community is also under construction in Urbandale and is expected to be completed in 2023.

The Waukee development would include 80 units, 40 of which would be assisted living; 20 memory care; and 20 independent living.

“Edencrest at Kettlestone will reflect the same qualities as our other Edencrest communities but the [Waukee] community will feature some newly configured, larger unit layouts,” Joey Taylor-Moon, Hubbell’s vice president of marketing, wrote in an email.

Construction of the 43,400-square-foot, two-story Edencrest at Kettlestone is expected to begin in the second half of 2022 and be completed in 2023, according to Taylor-Moon.

The property must go through the city’s platting and site plan approval process before construction begins.
