Highmark Senior Living, formed in 2023, began managing six of Hubbell’s Edencrest communities on Jan. 1. Plans include eventually managing all of the communities, including three currently under construction or in the planning stages.
“As long-time property managers in multiple real estate sectors, Hubbell created Highmark with a collaborative, trusted team composed of seasoned professionals leading the communities,” Kyle Gamble, Hubbell’s executive vice president and chief operating officer, said in a prepared statement. “With Highmark Senior Living’s management support and operational oversight, we are confident the Edencrest communities will continue to grow and succeed across Central Iowa.”
Senior Housing Management of Cedar Rapids previously managed some of the Edencrest properties. A Hubbell spokesperson declined to comment on past management of the communities.
Highmark Senior Living is based in West Des Moines and employs about 235 people. The group’s regional director of operations is Casey Stephens, who has 16 years of experience in health care with West Des Moines-based Care Initiatives. Stephens is a member of the Iowa Health Care Association and is a licensed nursing home administrator and assisted living manager.
“We’re looking forward to making a true impact throughout the Edencrest communities,” Stephens said in a prepared statement. “Our regional team has decades of senior living industry experience and comes from a wide background of industry specialties.”
Highmark Senior Living is managing six of Hubbell’s Edencrest communities that have a total of nearly 300 residents. The six communities are in Des Moines, Altoona, Ankeny, Norwalk and Johnston. There is also an Edencrest community in Urbandale that in the spring will be managed by Highmark Senior Living. Two other Edencrest developments – in Waukee and Pleasant Hill – are under construction. An Edencrest community is also planned in Adel.
Hubbell began the Edencrest community developments about 10 years ago.
