Chris Whalen, owner of Hyper Energy Bar and president of development at Heart of America Group, has been arrested on domestic abuse and child endangerment charges following an incident at his West Des Moines home. According to Iowa Courts online, Whalen is charged with domestic abuse-display or use of a weapon, intimidation with a dangerous weapon and two counts of child endangerment. The criminal complaint shows that police responded to a domestic situation involving a weapon that was fired at Whalen’s home shortly after 10 p.m. on April 25. He was detained and released the next day after posting a $20,000 cash bond, online court records show. A no contact order was also ordered, records show. Two children were asleep in the home at the time, the complaint said. Whalen did not immediately respond to an email seeking comment. A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for May 6 in Dallas County.
