The city council on Monday approved an employment agreement with Meshke, who currently is deputy city manager in Brookings, S.D.

Meshke, who will be paid $195,000 annually, begins his new role May 28. He replaces Benjamin Reeves, who resigned in December to become city manager for Eagle Mountain City, Utah.

Meshke “brings a strong track record of leadership, having managed larger budgets and teams in a bigger city, and his expertise in economic development has led to the successful completion of several major projects,” Indianola Mayor Steve Richardson said in a news release. “Additionally, as a college town, we value our relationship with Simpson College, and Jacob has already expressed his commitment to strengthening that vital partnership.”

Meshke has been deputy city manager for Brookings since 2019. Before that, he was the assistant village administrator in Bayside, Wis., for three years. He has a master’s degree in public administration from Arizona State University.

MGT, an executive recruitment and management consulting firm headquartered in Tampa, Fla., assisted the city of Indianola in the city manager recruitment process.
