Iowa ALS chapter receives national honor
The Iowa chapter of the ALS Foundation has received “Chapter of the Year” honors from the national organization. ALS, or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, is commonly referred to as Lou Gehrig’s disease. In 2010, Iowa’s 2010 Walk to Defeat ALS raised $425,400, more than double the prior year, and had the highest growth rate among the nation’s 42 chapters. More than 3,300 walkers participated in the statewide event, and participants in Central Iowa raised nearly $360,000.
