Iowa architect group recognizes 2 individuals

303 wordsAll Latest News, Real Estate and DevelopmentThe Iowa Chapter of the American Institute of Architects in September honored recipients of the AIA Iowa Young Architect and AIA Iowa Medal of Honor.
Shannon Swift, a senior associate architect with Invision Architecture in Des Moines, received the AIA Iowa Young Architect Award. The award recognizes a person who has shown exceptional leadership and made significant contributions to the profession in the areas of design, education, and/or service in the early stages of their careers.
Becky Hansel, a partner at Invision Architecture, in her nomination of Swift, wrote that “Throughout her tenure with us, Shannon has consistently demonstrated exceptional problem-solving skills and a remarkable ability to approach challenges with creativity. Her innovative ideas and unique perspective have significantly contributed to the success of various projects, setting new standards for design excellence within our organization.”
Mindy Aust, principal and founder of MA Architecture in Des Moines, received the AIA Iowa Medal of Honor Award, considered the organization’s highest honor. The award is given to architects who have dedicated a significant portion of their career in service to the profession of architecture and played a role in shaping the profession as well as the chapter.
Kate Schwennsen, 2024 vice chancellor and past president of the American Institute of Architects, wrote in her nomination of Aust that “As an elected volunteer state and national leader, Mindy has had profound and lasting impact on the future of the profession and the AIA. Mindy was elected by her peers as the first female moderator of the AIA Strategic Council (2021). Known and admired for her abilities to communicate, build consensus and act, she led a positive transformation in the culture of this relatively new organizational structure to be more transparent, strategic and future-focused. … Her expansive influence on the evolution of AIA Iowa and its membership has been significant.”
