The Iowa chapter of the American Institute of Architects (AIA Iowa) has received a 2015 ASAE Power of A silver award for a program that trains architects and engineers who will act as a first responder team to assess damage in disaster situations. Nearly 60 architects, engineers and building officials attended the Iowa BSAFE training seminar in April at Iowa State University. AIA Iowa is a partner in the program along with the Iowa Department of Public Safety, Iowa Homeland Security, Iowa Association of Building Officials, Iowa Structural Engineers Association and the American Council of Engineering Companies of Iowa. BSAFE stands for Building Safety Assessment & Failure Evaluation. The American Society of Association Executives’ Power of A awards recognize accomplishments of associations and industry professionals.
