The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) has provided a $477,754 grant that will enable the Iowa Small Business Development Centers to establish an office of international trade in Des Moines. The funding is part of $50 million in additional small business funding from the Small Business Jobs Act of 2010 signed by President Barack Obama in September. The funding “will provide additional resources to small and medium-sized businesses that are interested in export,” said Joe Folsom, director of the SBA’s Iowa district office. Currently, the Iowa Department of Economic Development and the U.S. Department of Commerce provide export assistance through offices in Des Moines. Iowa was among six states in which the Jobs Act grants were announced today. The one-time funding will be provided to SBDC programs based on each state’s population.
