The Iowa Chamber Alliance announced four statewide, and six federal policy initiatives yesterday.

The alliance, a coalition of 16 chambers of commerce and economic development organizations throughout the state, believes the initiatives will encourage business growth and create jobs. The group called for the Iowa Legislature and Iowa’s representatives in Congress to consider the policies.

The statewide policies recommended are promoting Iowa’s economic growth; attracting and retaining a highly skilled and educated work force; rebuilding and improving Iowa’s infrastructure; and sustaining and revitalizing Iowa communities.

Federal initiatives are creating a National Flood Center at the current Iowa Flood Center at the University of Iowa; reforming immigration policy; implementing a stable energy policy; enacting a multi year surface transportation funding program; supporting international trade; and resisting federal regulations that impede business growth.

“If we change our approach to economic development and fix some specific areas of legislation that stymie business growth, it can spur economic growth,” said Ken Anderson, president of the Iowa Chamber Alliance, in a press release. “When businesses are doing well and hiring, other companies looking to expand will seek out Iowa communities.”
