The Iowa Corn Growers Association and its District 2 committee have donated funds to the Beef Up Iowa Program, which was launched in July to help connect beef producers with Iowans experiencing food insecurity. The funds from the District 2 committee were used to buy a family-owned steer that was processed at Iowa State University. The beef was then distributed through the Iowa Food Bank Association. Officials with the Iowa Corn Growers declined to say how much money was contributed, saying the cause is more important than the size of the contribution. Stu Swanson, a board director in District 2,  said the association is “pleased to be part of this generous program that gives back to Iowa communities … and benefits agriculture.” Beef Up Iowa is a partnership with the Iowa Department of Agriculture, Iowa State University and Iowa’s beef producers, and is an initiative of the state’s Feeding Iowans Task Force.
