Christy Smith is the vice president of human resources operations at Merit Resources Inc. in Des Moines. While holding a top position with the company, Smith remains accessible to all levels in our organization, according to those who nominated her. She encourages her employees to think big and encourages a flexible work schedule. Smith graduated from Drake Law School and has used her knowledge as an attorney to excel in her career while managing to pursue passion projects. She is a consummate professional and practices kindness first and foremost.
Where she’s been
Prior to Merit Resources, Smith was employed by UnityPoint at Home for three years as statewide director of people strategy. She also spent time with Iowa Health Home Care and Kum & Go LC. Five years of Smith’s professional life were spent with Image Ink Promotions, where she served as president. Some of her most rewarding work came through her service with ChildServe, where she spent over seven years helping to build the organization’s program.

Smith attended the University of Kansas, where she obtained a bachelor’s degree in journalism. She is a graduate of the Greater Des Moines Leadership Institute, a member of the Business Record’s 2004 Forty Under 40 class and a member of the Society for Human Resource Professionals.
