Why

Therese “Terri” Vaughan recently accepted a two-year appointment as dean of Drake University’s College of Business and Public Administration.

Where she’s been

In addition to her new role with Drake, Vaughan’s previous service includes a stint as state insurance commissioner and before that, a Drake professor and authority on insurance regulation. When Vaughan left Drake to take the insurance commissioner job, she put in for a two-year leave. Her plans changed. “I found the issues so fascinating, I ended up doing it for 10 years,” Vaughan told the Business Record in a November interview.

Connection points

At Drake, Vaughan she became the Robb B. Kelley distinguished professor of insurance and actuarial science. She has served on a number of corporate boards, and as CEO of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners. Exhausted, she left the association job in November 2012 and updated a text she wrote with her father, University of Iowa professor Emmett Vaughan.
