The West Des Moines Historical Society will host the Iowa Files, a free public lecture series, in partnership with the West Des Moines Public Library, for a sixth year. The series kicks off Sept. 8 at 2:30 p.m. at the West Des Moines Public Library, 4000 Mills Civic Parkway, with a panel discussion led by park organizers about the new Legacy Woods Nature Sanctuary planned in West Des Moines. When completed, the nearly 30-acre site, located near the historic Jordan House, will include restored prairie and oak savanna, an arboretum and a historical campus with the Jordan House, Bennett School and a new heritage center for the public. Speakers at the event will include Ryan Penning, West Des Moines’ director of parks and recreation, Marco Alvarez, superintendent of parks, Allison Ullestad, arts, culture and enrichment supervisor, and Gale Brubaker, executive director of the West Des Moines Historical Society.
