Iowa gets high grades for manufacturing, logistics
Iowa ranks high in its manufacturing and logistics sectors, compared with other states, but fares poorly in areas such as tax climate and global reach, according to a report by Ball State University’s Center for Business and Economic Research in Indiana. The report gave Iowa a grade of A for manufacturing and B for logistics, but a D-minus for tax climate and D for global reach. The Ball State center looked at each state’s advanced manufacturing employment as a share of total manufacturing employment in 2013. Data show that nationally, STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) and white-collar jobs are growing in the advanced manufacturing sector, while blue-collar occupations have declined.
