At least half of every demographic group surveyed in a recent Iowa Poll supported the bottle bill that applies a nickel deposit to soda and alcohol containers in an attempt to keep them out of ditches, the Des Moines Register reported. Thirty percent of respondents favored the legislation as it is, while another 27 percent said they want to apply the deposit to juice, water bottles and other items that weren’t on the market when the law took effect in 1979. The survey found that 53 percent of Republicans and 60 percent of Democrats favor either keeping the law the way it is or expanding it. The poll conducted by Selzer and Co. polled 801 Iowa adults Jan. 28-31 with a margin 3.5 percentage points.
