Two Iowa State University College of Design integrated studio arts alumni are concluding their one-year residencies at Mainframe Studios in Des Moines. Lydia Nong of Urbandale and Lorena San Elias Martinez of Des Moines have spent the past year creating at Mainframe in a shared studio space that was provided rent-free through a collaboration with the ISU Department of Art and Visual Culture and Mainframe after graduating with bachelor’s of fine arts degrees in May 2023. Nong and San Elias Martinez will debut a collaborative exhibition tonight as a part of the studio’s monthly First Friday open house event. The opening reception for “Effervescence: Perspectives from Iowa State University’s LGBTQIA+ Community and Allies” will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. The exhibition will be on view through June 24 on the third floor of the building.
