The court’s decision could potentially ban most abortions in Iowa. The case involves a law banning most abortions that was blocked in 2019. But after the Iowa and U.S. supreme courts overturned precedents that had protected abortion rights, Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds asked the state courts to finally let the law take effect. A lower-court judge said in December that the ban remained invalid. Reynolds appealed to the Iowa Supreme Court. The case opinion to be announced Friday is Planned Parenthood of the Heartland and Jill Meadows, M.D. v. Kim Reynolds ex rel. State of Iowa and Iowa Board of Medicine.
