Iowa is among 27 states that will receive part of $138 million in emergency grants, the U.S. Department of Labor said today. Part of Iowa’s $5.25 million grant will finance a joint program between Iowa Workforce Development and Iowa Central Community College to help workers who’ve lost their jobs because of avian flu. The college has campuses in Fort Dodge, Storm Lake and Webster City. The grant program is aimed at expanding innovative job training programs and re-employment strategies for laid-off workers, according to a Labor Department press release. A press release from Iowa Workforce Development said the agency will strengthen regional partnerships with business stakeholders including major health care and manufacturing employers, professional associations, key state agencies, and institutes of higher education.
