Iowa’s unemployment rate ticks up to 2.6%

Iowa’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 2.6% in August, slightly higher than July’s rate of 2.5%, Iowa Workforce Development reported today. According to the release, there were 44,700 unemployed Iowans in August, up slightly from July when 43,300 Iowans were out of work. The state’s labor participation rate was 67.7% in August. A survey of employers showed that Iowa businesses added 3,800 jobs in August. Many of the job gains were in retail trade and leisure and hospitality, according to the release. The U.S. unemployment rate in August was 3.7, up slightly from July’s rate of 3.5%.
