Ottumwa will receive $1 million for a state-of-the-art indoor recreation center as part of contributions announced Wednesday by JBS USA, a global food company that provides products for sale to customers in about 100 countries. According to the announcement, this pushes to $100 million the amount JBS USA has invested as part of its Hometown Strong initiative. The contribution to Ottumwa, where the company has a facility, will help develop year-round recreational opportunities for the community. JBS said the facility will help make Ottumwa more attractive for recruiting new businesses and residents, and for tourism. The Hometown Strong initiative was launched in May 2020, and so far more than $43 million has been invested in more than 200 projects in 42 communities nationwide. The company has also made $10 million of in-kind donations of meat and poultry products to food banks and others in need around the country.
