Johnston’s Sandvig retires after 26 years with city’s building department

Sandvig began working for Johnston in 1995 when the city had 6,100 residents. He was the city’s first full-time building department employee. During his 26 years, Sandvig has overseen the permitting and construction of more than 7,000 new residential units and more than $450 million in new commercial and industrial development. Johnston now has four employees in its building department and a population of about 23,000. Included among Sandvig’s responsibilities was updating the city’s building codes to ensure structures were built to the highest possible safety standards using the most up-to-date construction methods.
