Justice Zager to retire from state Supreme Court

142 wordsAll Latest News, Government Policy and Law, On the Move, Statewide NewsIowa Supreme Court Justice Bruce Zager said today he will retire Sept. 3, ending a 19-year judicial career that includes 12 years as a district judge. He began serving on the Supreme Court on March 23, 2011. The vacancy created by Zager’s retirement will be filled by appointment by the governor from a list of three nominees, which will be submitted by the State Judicial Nominating Commission. Zager is from Waterloo. He has an undergraduate degree from the University of Iowa and a master’s degree from Loyola University of Chicago. He received his law degree in 1980 from Drake University Law School. Zager was in private practice in Waterloo from 1981 to 1999, and was a member of the Black Hawk County attorney’s office from 1987 until his district court appointment in 1999. He is married with three children and four grandchildren.
