Kibbie to be honored for community college leadership
Sen. John “Jack” Kibbie, known by many as “the father of Iowa community colleges,” will be honored Thursday morning at the Statehouse in an event hosted by the Iowa Association of Community College Trustees (IACCT). The Emmetsburg Democrat sponsored the bill in 1965 that created the Iowa community college system, and served for 18 years on the board of Iowa Lakes Community College. The event, to be held at 7:30 a.m. on the first floor of the East Rotunda, will include remarks from Gov. Terry Branstad and legislative and IACCT leaders. Currently serving as Senate president, Kibbie is not seeking re-election this year.
