Sara Kurovski, mayor of Pleasant Hill, today announced plans to run for the Polk County Supervisor District 3 seat currently held by Steve Van Oort. Kurovski, a Republican, is in her second term as mayor of the eastern Polk County suburb. She has also served on the Polk County Conservation Board, has been a member of the Iowa Municipal Workers Compensation Association, a member of the Metropolitan Planning Organization, and a delegate to Israel and Southeast Asia as a member of the American Council of Young Political Leaders. Kurovski works at United Way of Central Iowa as director of the Tocqueville Society. In a release, she said she is seeking the county supervisor seat to bring “transparency and accountability to county government.” VanOort, who has not announced whether he’ll seek re-election, has been on the county supervisor board since 2012. He previously was mayor of Ankeny.
