Des Moines Register: Following weeks of negotiations, Iowa legislators have agreed to a deal cutting state programs and services by about $35.5 million this year in an effort to balance the budget, with state universities shouldering the heaviest share of those cuts. The Iowa Board of Regents will see about $11 million in cuts for the current budget year ending June 30, though the House stipulated that those cuts cannot be made to the University of Northern Iowa. Unlike the University of Iowa and Iowa State University, UNI accepts more in-state students who pay lower tuition rates than out-of-state students.
