The results of the latest quarterly business survey sent to the Iowa Association of Business and Industry’s board members provided insight into leaders’ strategies and priorities heading into the second quarter as they navigate a “fluctuating business environment.”

The outlook on employment for the upcoming quarter is mostly positive, as attracting and retaining talent remains a priority for employers. More than half of respondents, 53%, expect to maintain their current number of employees, and others anticipate being able to add to their workforce.

Half of respondents said they anticipate stable sales during the second quarter, according to the survey.

Also, more than 50% of respondents intend to make capital expenditures in the upcoming quarter, which demonstrates a continued focus toward investment in infrastructure and technology, according to a news release.

“As businesses of all sizes navigate through the challenges and opportunities, the state’s continued measured approach to tax and regulatory reform will help provide certainty to Iowa employers,” Mike Ralston, ABI president, said in a prepared statement.

Each quarter, ABI sends a quarterly business survey to provide a comprehensive snapshot of the industry’s current state and future trajectory. The survey was sent to the ABI board of directors in early March.
